Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted! Sorry about that guys, I've been so busy this week! I am almost finished with a plywood painting that I'm super excited to share and I'm in the process of going through old clothes and seeing what I can do with them. It's been a little bit of a struggle, since cutting already -made clothes seems to be much more difficult than straight up fabric.. It's definitely a learning experience and I'm hoping to share the things I've learned with you soon! I'll even do a post about the big t-shirt flop. (Seriously, I struggled yesterday.)
This brings me to what I have ready for today - shorts! A friend of mine donated some old jeans to me a month or so ago, and I hadn't any idea what to do with them... until I went on this crazy clothing frenzy! Luckily, we're the same size :) The only tricky part was that there was a hole... So I started at the hole and was trying to get the two legs even when I realized they were short. And when I say short, I mean not publicly appropriate (for this girl at least). I spent a few minutes considering my options, determined not to give up. Suddenly, I recalled a photo I had seen where someone added lace to the bottom of her shorts because they were too short. Brilliant!! After searching the deep corners of my house, I came up short - no lace. I feel like that should be a crime or something. Anyway, what I did find was a long, fabric belt from a sundress! I pinned it along the bottom of each leg, grabbed some green embroidery thread and got to work hand stitching the belt into place.
After the legs were finished, I thought it needed a little something extra to complete the look. I dug in my fabric box for a floral print that went well with the belt, cut out the pattern of each back pocket, and hand stitched them on with the same tread.
I love how they turned out, and I am so excited to wear them!! Hopefully my other clothing projects will turn out as well! Have you tried any shorts refashions lately? I'd love to hear about them!
love the pockets! they look great. i need to get out my sewing box!!
